Tour the Strand Historic District

Located right in the heart of downtown, this 5-block district was added to the US National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and today is one of the most popular places for those looking for things to do in Galveston.

Encompassing some 60 buildings spread over five city blocks, the district extends to the busy waterfront area with its restored old warehouses, and is within walking distance of many of Galveston's top tourist attractions.

Enjoy a day at the beach in Stewart


Situated on Seawall Boulevard, this upscale stretch of sand is one of the top things to do in Galveston for free, though it's also home to plenty of high-quality bars and restaurants.

In addition, this beach is one of the most visited by families since it has different services that make children go crazy, such as beach volleyball courts, a playground, and serene tides for swimming.

Stroll along the Historic Dock

As one of the newer attractions in the city, the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier is a fun way to pass the time, especially when traveling with children.

Originally built in 1942 but reopened in 2012, the pier features a colorful amusement park with more than 15 attractions for all ages and tastes. It also has a variety of dining options to relax and enjoy after so much fun.

Get to know the Texas Seaport Museum

As we mentioned earlier, Galveston is one of the nation's major port cities, and the Texas Seaport Museum is the perfect place to learn why. Not only is it home to the sailing ship Elissa, built in 1877 and considered one of the best-restored historic ships in the United States, but it also tells a wonderful story about the more than 100,000 immigrants who came there.
