Where to do a via ferrata in Corsica?

If you have planned to spend your holidays in Corsica and you are looking for a thrilling sporting activity, which will allow you to enjoy the superb landscapes of the Island of Beauty, then the via ferrata is made for you.

What better place than Corsica to practice this activity? Halfway between hiking and climbing, the via ferrata will allow you to move along the Corsican cliffs to discover absolutely unforgettable landscapes.

In this short guide, I will present to you the five best places to go via ferrata in Corsica.
If you don't know yet where to go in Corsica, this might help you make your choice 🙂

The Asco Valley Park

This park located about 45 minutes from Ile Rousse in the Monte Cinto region is one of the places to go without fail if you want to practice family activities in the heart of nature during your stay in Corsica.

Depending on the season, you can practice canyoning, kayaking, skiing, paintball… and you can also find the via ferrata Dia Manicella, the most popular in all of Corsica.

The Asco valley is a perfect place to practice via ferrata. From the rope bridges, ladders and suspended footbridges located on the walls, you can experience extreme sensations in a unique natural and wild setting. The Asco Valley is often considered the most beautiful place in Europe to practice this activity. As much to tell you that it was a treat to do this via ferrata there with the giant zip line 🙂

It is on Mount Al Lardo that you will evolve during your excursion. Several circuits are available, so you can easily find the one that suits you, whatever your level:
  • Family Aventure will be perfect for introducing you to via ferrata with your family
  • Evasion will suit beginners who are not shy
  • Sensations is a slightly more demanding intermediate course
  • Sportif is one of the most impressive courses, which will make you use 8 giant zip lines
  • X-pert is the course specially designed for via ferrata specialists looking for a real challenge
Tolla, the most beautiful via ferrata in Corse ?

Tolla is a small town located in Corse-du-Sud near Ajaccio. You can therefore easily get there by car with the ferry to Corsica from the mainland.

The particularity of the Tolla via ferrata is that all along your route on the cliffs, you can enjoy a superb view of the Tolla lake which is located below, on the other side of the dam.

This sports excursion of about three hours will allow you to discover the Prunelli gorges and the Gulf of Ajaccio. Very accessible, this course can be followed by all the members of the family, you will not necessarily need to be in very good physical shape to be able to do this activity. This via ferrata is also very accessible in terms of price, since you will only have to pay around twenty euros per person, the rental of equipment being of course included.

The via Ferrata of the Ospedale près de Porto Vecchio

In the south of Corsica, just 20 minutes from Porto Vecchio, you can do a beautiful via ferrata with superb views of the Porto Vecchio golf course 🙂

X Trem Sud offers a via ferrata in Southern Corsica of about 1 hour. On the program: suspension bridge, zip line and rope bridge. The view is sublime and the via ferrata is accessible to all. There is a course for beginners and a course for more athletic people.

Peri

Peri is one of the most charming villages in Corsica, which is close to Ajaccio. During your discovery of the village, you will also be able to access a via ferrata on Monte Falcunaccia, which is intended more for regulars of the discipline, even if beginners accompanied by a guide will also be able to take advantage of it.

For a little over 3 hours, you will cross 4 sectors and alternate between hiking and crossing the cliff face. It will take about 30 minutes on foot to reach the first crossing zone, and about 1 hour 30 minutes on the way back. The most complex areas of the route can be circumvented thanks to hiking trails, which are much more accessible.

Buccaneer

Near the municipality of Sari-Solenzara, you can find the via ferrata of Buccarona. The Aiguilles de Bavella site is the southernmost massif in Corsica. It is a well-known place for hiking enthusiasts, and these large rocky peaks are obviously a perfect place to practice via ferrata.

The Buccarona route begins with an easily accessible path, from which you will have a magnificent view of the Solenzara. The whole route is relatively simple, and may even be suitable for beginners, provided they are in good physical condition and do not suffer from vertigo.

From the top, you can enjoy a very pretty view of the Aiguilles de Bavella and the Tyrrhenian Sea. A second course, the via ferrata de la Punta is also accessible at the top, but it will be reserved for specialists.

Chisa, a via ferrata in Haute-Corse

Chisa is a village in Haute-Corse which is about a 40-minute drive from Solenzara. It is particularly popular with tourists, who like to come and taste the typical products of the region and enjoy a pleasant swim in the streams that flow into the Travo.

In this mountainside village, you can find a very family-friendly via ferrata, accessible to children aged 12 and over. On the walls of Monte Incudine, you will follow a route that will take you over cobwebs, rope bridges, a zip line and a Nepalese bridge overlooking the Vadina Maio river. This route will allow you to reach a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the surrounding massif and the Travo valley.

To go to Haute-Corse, you can easily come with your own vehicle by taking the ferry to Corsica.

Prepare well for the via ferrata in Corsica

All the routes that I have presented to you are accessible for prices ranging from around €20 to €35, this price including the rental of mandatory safety equipment.

If you choose to be accompanied by a guide, and I strongly recommend it, especially if you are a beginner, you will have to pay an additional fifty euros.

Here are some tips and information to help you make the most of your experience:

*. These activities generally last at least 3 hours, during which you will practice a sporting activity in full sun. So remember to take all the necessary precautions. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and don't forget to take a bottle of water and a small snack that will be very useful in case of cravings.

*. Dress comfortably, so that you can move freely without discomfort. Only lace-up shoes are allowed.

*. Minors must present parental authorization, and those over 55 will need a medical certificate

*. Your excursion may be canceled in the event of bad weather. Avoid planning this activity on the last day of your stay, so that you can postpone it if the weather conditions require you to do so.
