The "John Hancock Center" is one of the most striking and beautiful buildings in the windy city, and by extension in the entire United States. The exterior structure of the building is based on interlocking steel tubes, whose function is to save steel and gain space inside the tower, in addition to resisting the onslaught of winds of up to almost two hundred kilometers per hour.
The “X” characteristics of the façade and its trapezoidal obelisk shape topped by two huge antennas give it a distinctive, highly original air that makes it recognizable from anywhere in the city.
To enjoy the panoramic view of Chicago, its Magnificent Mile and Lake Michigan, you have to go up to the 94th floor, 304 meters above the ground, where the John Hancock Observatory is located. As in almost all the observatories you have to pay an entrance fee.
One possibility to avoid it is to access floors 95 or 96, where there are two restaurants, public places, open access and free. At 95 there is “The Signature Room on the 95th Floor” and at 96 the “Signature Lounge”. Both restaurants offer fantastic views.
The Signature Lounge is somewhat cheaper than the other if you want to consume something -it's not mandatory- and the panorama is impressive.
The only drawback is the wait for the elevator located in the lobby on the ground floor. As you can imagine, the queues are always endless and you have to arm yourself with a little patience. Otherwise the reward will be worth it.
