Costa Mujeres : Sea, Beach and culture in a paradise of the Mexican Caribbean
Costa Mujeres awaits you 30 km from Cancun, surrounded by beautiful natural settings such as mangroves, tropical jungle, white sand beaches and the impressive turquoise blue sea.
When you think of Mexico, you think of the sea and beaches, but if you are also looking to get away from noise, contact with nature and local culture and the possibility of adventure tourism enjoying the Caribbean, the place is Costa Mujeres.
Costa Mujeres
The town of Costa Mujeres is located in the Municipality of Isla Mujeres, but it is located on the mainland, in the State of Quintana Roo, only 30 kilometers north of Cancun.
This village is located on a peninsula where tourists are invited to respect the natural environment that surrounds it. Perhaps that is why it still maintains its peaceful character and becomes the best destination to relax and renew energy.
This 930 hectare community is located along 3.2 kilometers of white sand beaches and includes private residences, a golf course, a marina and several of the best hotels in the country.
Nature and Culture
Delving into the history and geography of the environment is something that will fill you with adrenaline. One suggestion is to participate in the catamaran tour with snorkeling in the turquoise waters.
Things to do in Costa Mujeres
You can enjoy wonderful days at the beach in the same hotel or visit one of the attractions located in its surroundings, such as the pet-friendly beach of Isla Blanca, the beautiful Chacmuchuch lagoon where you can do kitesurfing; or you can also snorkel off the coast of Costa Mujeres.
Golfers can practice their swing at Playa Mujeres Golf Club (18 holes), designed by the legendary Greg Norman, who combined the nature of the place (sand dunes and mangroves) with the modern architecture of the course.
It is very easy to take a day trip to one of the cenotes of the Riviera Maya, starting from Costa Mujeres.
Another great option is to go to Tulum to explore the site of the same name and learn about the more than 60 structures that make up this place, being "El Castillo" the most important, because it is located in front of the Caribbean Sea.
Costa Mujeres has its own archaeological site: El Meco, which was linked to Cobá.
The deep Mexico
The "Cultural Cobá" excursion offers to delve into the roots of the country's history, by visiting the highest pyramid in the Mexican Mayan world; visit lakes and cenotes (underground rivers to which the Mayans granted sacred use) and explore the fauna and flora sanctuaries of a local town.
The culture of the Mayan peoples is kept alive in those towns and villages, where you can discover everything from the wonders of a cenote to savoring the ancestral tortillas.
To enter the village it is necessary for a shaman to "clean" the visitor, in a brief and intense ceremony, in which the smoke of the incense "purifies"
After that, you enter the Boca de Sapo cenote; you go down a staircase that allows you to observe an important community of bats. Below, the cool and transparent water invites you to swim, with a maximum depth of four meters.
After the typical lunch in another small Mayan community, Tres Reyes, we resume the march towards Cobá, an archaeological site where the 123-step pyramid is found, which not a few hikers dare to climb, despite its verticality.
From the entrance to the archaeological center where the pyramid is located, there are two and a half kilometers, a distance that can be covered on foot, by bicycle or in what is called a “limousine”, a tricycle propelled by a “driver”.
