Natal beaches
It is usually chosen by all types of public: couples, families with children, but also young people who like to enjoy their vacations on the beach and have a connection with nature. His bonus? Enjoying Natal does not take much time because, luckily, everything is relatively close.
Where is Natale?
Known as the City of the Sun, Natal is the capital of the State of Rio Grande do Norte. Located in the northeast of Brazil, it can be visited using different means of transportation.
- Plane: Natal has its own airport just 20 kilometers from the city. The Augusto Severo International Airport is the main air terminal of Rio Grande do Norte and, also, one of the largest and most modern in the entire country. It is the most recommended option since in Brazil the distances are very long.
- Car: it is not the option that we recommend because, once again, it is about very long distances between one city and another. For example, there are more than 2,600 kilometers that separate Rio de Janeiro from Natal: a long and excessively strenuous journey of more than 52 hours. In addition, there are certain sections in which the routes do not have the ideal signage, therefore the road becomes difficult.
- Boat: at the moment, this means of transport can only be reached from those cruises that include Natal as one of their destinations.
The best beaches in Natal
The beaches are, without a doubt, the best attraction in Natal. These are many and different from each other, so it is advisable to visit each one of them to enjoy without limits.
Ponta Negra Beach
Located just 12 kilometers from the center of Natal, Praia de Ponta Negra is the most visited and chosen beach by tourists from Brazil and all of South America. Due to its popularity, it has a very good infrastructure of hotels and inns, as well as building a large number of bars and restaurants to receive tourism at any time of the year.
The days are hectic and non-stop. For this reason, the most restless can take advantage of their time in Ponta Negra to practice some sport under the sun or rent a boat.
Its beaches are 4 kilometers long, with incredible views. One of the most appreciated is the one obtained from Morro do Careca, a high-altitude dune full of vegetation. Until a few years ago, climbing the nose was one of the most appreciated activities by those who visited the beach, but due to the increasing arrival of tourists, they closed their way.
While you walk through its warm sand you can stop to eat seafood, enjoy the tasty acai, or have a drink with a direct view of the sea.

Praia dos Artistas
Located a few kilometers from the center of Natal. Also chosen by the youngest, locals and wave lovers, since surfing can be practiced on its beaches.
A few years ago, it was the fashionable beach in Natal. The most prestigious artists in the country attended, a reason that gave the beach its name. Nowadays, it lost that position with the growth of Ponta Negra, although the locals continue to choose it day by day.
This is why it really is not the most recommended beach for tourists, since the neighborhood is not one of the safest.
Praia do Forte
Thanks to its constant breezes, this is the most popular beach for lovers of water sports that require wind, such as windsurfing or kitesurfing.
It is also recommended for families with children since it is surrounded by reefs that form natural pools, ideal for the little ones to enjoy.
The beach surrounds a monument worth seeing: the Forte dos Reis Magos. This fortress, built by the Portuguese in 1598, was conceived in order to protect the city from French attacks. The wall also offers one of the best views in all of Natal.
What to do in Christmas
Due to its great diversity of beaches, Natal allows you to carry out many different activities. From touring the different beaches in a buggy, to visiting historical places. Natal allows you to enjoy a stay without getting bored for a minute.
The city is also very fond of water sports. For this reason, one can choose between doing extreme sports (such as surfing, kitesurfing or windsurfing), learning to dive, snorkeling or even boat trips. There are many options, the hard part is choosing one!
Night life
The night does not exclude age either. For younger people looking for a more active nightlife, we recommend going to Praia do Ponta Negra. There are great options to go out dancing, try the tastiest seafood and have delicious drinks until long hours of the night. Other people simply choose to sit in the street while enjoying their caipirinhas.
The night is also one of the best moments to taste the favorite dishes of Natal. Some chosen from the area, such as seafood, garlic shrimp, lobster cake and crab soup, go perfectly with the classic feijoada.
But when the sun goes down and the sand cools, Ponta Negra beach is the main party venue. In these classic events, dancing, music and cold beers are the absolute protagonists. Also keep in mind that you don't have to wait for the weekend. In Natal, every day there is something to do.
Excursions in Christmas
With the shining sun from early morning, Natal lends its days to do all kinds of excursions. Get to know the most chosen among the tourists who visit the city:
- Snorkeling in Maracajaú: Known as the Brazilian Caribbean, Maracajaú is only 70 kilometers from Natal. After a short boat trip, all experts and not so much will be able to dive into the waters of the Atlantic. There, corals and colorful fish dazzle all visitors. A full day of relaxation in full contact with nature.
- Pure fun at Manoa Park: it is one of the best water parks in Brazil, located next to Maracajaú beach. It is not only recommended for families with children: here everyone has fun. Sliding down giant slides, swimming in pools with a stream, enjoying a cool drink at the swim-up bars and relaxing in the whirlpools are just some of the activities available.
- Boat trip to Morro do Careca: the trip in a jangalancha (a hybrid between a boat and a jangada, a typical boat in the area) lasts about two hours. During all this time, one can contemplate the different landscapes that appear and even take a bath in the waters of Praia Alagamar. Some lucky ones were also able to see up close how the dolphins jump between the waves. Amazing!
Pipe
Without a doubt, the best and most popular option in all of Natal. Families with young children, couples and groups of friends want to visit it to enjoy its wide variety of beaches. Surfers choose it to get carried away by its waves. Other young people (and not so much) fall so in love with its beautiful landscapes that they decide to stay and live there.
Just 80 kilometers from Natal, Pipa is a unique paradise. Despite having a more bohemian style than other beaches in Natal, it has a well-developed hotel offer for all tastes and budgets.
It is only an hour and a half by car or bus from Natal. Many tourists choose to travel to Natal by plane, spend a day or two there while touring the city, and then end their vacation in Pipa.
The beaches of Pipa are different from each other, although in all of them you can enjoy their crystal clear and warm water, as well as walks on their white sand.
Pipa Beaches
The downtown beach is usually one of the most popular in the area. It is an extensive beach, ideal for families due to its calm waters and the diverse offer of bars, restaurants and activities that can be carried out on it.
BahÃa dos Golfinhos is where the dolphins usually make their appearances. Many times, they even come close to the shore in search of food or to play in its waters. Unlike other beaches, this one does not have bars that can offer food or refreshments. Therefore, keep in mind to bring your provisions.
Praia do amor is another of Pipa's classics. This beach manages to bring together the adventurous climate of those who wish to practice surfing, but also the ideal space to rest without qualms. It is usually the most chosen by couples, hence its name.
As families gather their things at sunset, the youngest know that leaving is not an option. The party begins on the beach, and slowly moves to Avenida BahÃa dos Golfinhos, the street with the most bars in the area.
It is there where the music flows between reggae, rock, samba and even has the presence of DJs who spin their records live.
