Castaway Cay: Disney's private island in the Bahamas
After Disney acquired the island in 1996, Castaway Cay became a must-see on Caribbean cruises.
Castaway Cay is the private island that Disney acquired in the Bahamas in 1996 to make it a must-see on the company's cruise ships. It is a paradisiacal place, which offers a superior experience for lovers of the sea and the beach.
Surrounded by crystalline waters, with white sand coasts, and full of nature typical of the area near the equator, the island of more than 400 hectares offers unique and unforgettable activities for the whole family. Of course, with the special touch that Disney always gives.
What is the Disney experience like at Castaway Cay?
To begin with, and unlike all ports, when you get off the ship you don't have to do any bidding of any kind. In fact, the island has its own pier where only Disney cruise ships dock. So as soon as one touches the mainland, one already enters a tropical fairy tale.
At Castaway Cay, ship guests have included all the essentials for a magical day. Lounge chairs, towels, and umbrellas for lunch. However, those who wish can purchase different packages or services such as snorkeling equipment, bicycle rental, or private cabins but at an extra cost.
Already entering the island one begins to see the paradisiacal beaches and there is no other choice but to follow that attraction. Inside the sea, children have endless activities, such as water slides and parkour-style games to test their skills.
But that's not all, in case adults want to relax in a quieter place, Serenity Bay is the right place. Access for those under 18 years of age is prohibited here, making it the perfect beach for sunbathing, diving and eating delicious things.
Speaking of food, around 11:30 in the morning the announcement everyone is waiting for is heard: Cookie's and Cookies Too is open. In this specific place for tourists to have a free lunch, you can find typical American barbecue buffet foods: hamburgers, BBQ Ribs, hot dogs and other delicious dishes to take a break between so much fun.
Also, as if the rest of the activities weren't enough, at Grouper Game Pavilion the family can take a break from the beach and play games like ping-pong, 4 in a row, billiards and basketball. And, a few meters from here, is the Sports Beach where sports lovers put their skills to the test by playing volleyball and soccer.
