Universal isn't stopping: It will open a New Park in Europe in 2031

After Epic Universe, it will build Europe's largest theme park in the United Kingdom.

Just weeks after opening the brand-new Epic Universe in Orlando, Universal Pictures is once again shaking up the global entertainment industry. This time, the announcement is ambitious and British-tinged: the company confirmed it will build a new theme park in Bedford, England , with a multi-million-dollar investment and scheduled to open in 2031.

"We want to create an iconic destination for Europe," declared Mike Cavanagh, president of Comcast. And with good reason: the project promises to be one of the most impressive tourist and entertainment complexes on the continent.

What will Universal's new UK park have?

Although details remain a mystery, it's expected to follow in the footsteps of Epic Universe, which opens this May 22 in Florida with worlds inspired by Harry Potter, Super Nintendo, How to Train Your Dragon, and classic Universal Monsters. In fact, the United Kingdom has a direct connection to franchises like Harry Potter, which was filmed entirely there, so it's almost a given that it will have a starring role.

In addition, Universal owns the rights to Wicked, a film already generating buzz, and could also add Minions attractions or new immersive offerings with cutting-edge technology.

Construction will begin in 2026, and for six years, movie and theme park fans will be eagerly awaiting every leaked detail. This will be Universal Studios' first park in Europe and promises to mark a turning point in tourism on the continent.

Lisa Nandy, UK Culture Secretary, welcomed the investment: “This is fantastic news for our economy, for tourism, and for the British public. Universal is behind blockbuster hits like Minions and Wicked. This park will be the biggest and best in Europe.”
